Buddha's BBQ Sauce

The Sauce of All BBQ Greatness: Our mission is to spread the love to all the world through its best BBQ sauce!

In 1976, Buddha (aka Carroll Bell) was given a recipe for some “almost bodacious” barbecue sauce. He almost worked his Buddha belly off to refine this original recipe, going through many versions until he found the perfect Buddha blend. As fate would have it, he also acquired the Coffee Pot Bar and Grill in Roanoke, Virginia in 1979. Finally, he had a perfect way to spread the love – otherwise known as Buddha’s Bodacious Barbecue Sauce.

The Coffee Pot

The Coffee Pot is well-known throughout the South. First, its been a roadhouse since 1937 and is listed on both the state and national register of historic places. Second, its musical acts include some of the biggest in the business - Willie Nelson, Richie Havens, Dicky Betts of the Allman Brothers, Ralph Stanley and a host of others. But the Coffee Pot really became famous for its barbecue and the delicious sauce Buddha drenched it in. Rumor has it that many of the bands who played at the Coffee Pot weren’t paid with cash, but with gallons of sweet barbecue love.

Buddha’s Bodacious Barbecue Sauce was an instant success, and for the last three decades, people from far and wide have made the journey to the Coffee Pot not only to hear great music, but to eat great barbecue. Buddha has passed on the recipe for his famous mouth-watering sauce, and today his son Jamie is carrying on the family legacy, continuing to bring Buddha’s Bodacious Barbecue Sauce to the masses.
