World Harmony Singing

Three different workshops led by Karla Mundy to explore harmony, rhythm and world vocal traditions.  Prior musical training is NOT required.

Karla Mundy is a diverse and passionate vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and choir leader. Karla is a member of the seven-woman acappella septet, the Shirleys and the old-time string band Plough. 

She directs three choirs and can also be seen performing around Vancouver on banjo, piano, and percussion.


This course will explore singing with movement, clapping, stepping and body percussion. This is a great brain workout that works on coordination, internal pulse, groove and a better understanding and embodiment of rhythm.

We will be drawing on different world vocal traditions. This is open to anyone who loves to sing and move!

WORLD HARMONY SINGING with Brian Tate and Karla Mundy
Join Brian Tate and Karla Mundy for a fun afternoon of harmony singing, movin’, clappin’ and trying something new! We will explore various singing styles from different world vocal traditions.

Drawing on Cuban, African and Gospel music we will be learning two, three and four part harmony singing and working to understand the basic rhythms and vocal quality within these different styles. We will learn by ear so you don’t need to know how to read music.

All you need is a love of singing and a desire to sing from the heart. You will leave energized and with some new beautiful harmonies ringing in your ears. We will provide you with a lyrics sheet for you to take home.

If you are taking more than one workshop, you will need to buy each one separately.

Brian Tate is a Vancouver vocalist, award-winning composer/arranger, and choral conductor. Brian directs the 100-voice Island Soul Choir and also plays keyboards and percussion. He is a jazz vocalist and frequently gives choral and vocal workshops on many styles of singing. Many of Brian’s choral arrangements are published and performed worldwide.
